Foxconn, the controversial Apple product manufacturing partner from Taiwan due to its work practices and treatment of its workers has agreed to buy Japanese firm Sharp for $6.2 Billion today.

Sharp, who had been manufacturing TVs and other related consumer products including Android based smartphones such as Sharp AQUOS is a major display screen vendor for Apple's iPhones and iPad.

Sharp has been considering a sellout to highest bidder for sometime now. But considering the three way tie up that existed between Apple, Foxconn and Sharp until now has made this acquisition a lot more interesting for the industry observers.

Taiwanese based Foxconn has been a major assembling unit for Apple for some time now. It had been sourcing components for manufacturing Apple products from all over the world and hence this acquisition of Sharp who were a major iPhone display manufacturer by Foxconn seems like a strategic move by Foxconn to further increase its relationship with Apple.

Apple, which is the most valued company in the world yet has been outsourcing the manufacturing activities to Foxconn since the beginning of iPhones. However, both Apple and Foxconn had come under scrutiny by public and human activists because of the way Foxconn had been dealing with its employees.
