If you have been using Raspberry Pi some time back but had put it out of use for sometime and now you cant seem to recollect the changed password for the system to login to, then there is a way for you to recover your SD Card contents without having to format the SD Card and lose all its content.

What you need to do is to go buy a new SD Card for your Raspberry Pi and prepare this new SD card for NOOBS OS. Next, you plug in this freshly prepared SD Card into your Raspberry Pi and boot the hardware from there.

Once your Raspberry Pi boots up, you can use a USB-SDCard adapter, insert your password locked SD card and plug it into the USB port of your booted Raspberry Pi. Then you can mount in the locked SD Card as a mount point and recover all your important files by copying it from the password locked sd card to your freshly installed and booted SD Card partition.

Hope this helps!
